Is it just alphabet soup?
Well many SMEs will not be equipped to support a full blown ERP system, but it doesn’t mean they cannot benefit from smaller MRP systems. And don’t be embarrassed by the use of a simple Excel spreadsheet. It is what suits you and provides you with support that is important.
Should I be employing 'Lean'?
Lean is simply a state of mind. An attitude that says, I am not going to waste anything. This applies throughout the factory, from Goods Inwards to Despatch, and includes the Sales Office and Accounts as much as Production.
Beware of acronyms when planning such systems: e.g. Does SOP mean Sales Order Processing or Standard Operating Procedures?
When planning any system it is crucial that this is clear to all parties before the event. Tabulate and distribute this detail as part of any project plan if necessary, before it trips you up.
